How should i perm my asian hair into this style (pic included)?

I currently am an asian male and have that asian hair that won't stay down unless i gel it. i want my hair to look like this:

my hair can look like that if i put in gel to flatten my 1.5 inch hair on the sides, then just press the top down, but i want to have a perm so that the sides of the hair will just stay down itself.

how do i get my hair to look like that picture? instructions would be helpful (what length to cut it, how/what/where should i put the perm, what the perm is going to, how to perm, etc.)!

To be honest, I think that is really ugly. Especially on an Asian male :( Because it has sort of a round shape, it emphasizes Asians' round features (eyes, nose, chin, etc). The guy in the picture has sharp European features, so he can barely pull it off. I would suggest something more rigid.:)
