How do you clean hair products off of a curling iron?

I borrowed my friend's three barrel curling iron and it is CAKED with dried hairspray, gel, and even hair! I've tried rubbing alcohol...any suggestions?

O.k. my reponse is easy and its very cheap might I add..................Plug the curling iron in and turn it to the highest setting leave on for about 10 minutes on high and then unplug and get stainless steel or copper(what you may use to clean dirty pots and pans with) and wet so it starts bubbling and start scrubbing but continuosly dipping steel or copper in cool water to prevent your fingers from burning. But trust me this works and no harsh chemicals needed. Just be sure to let dry for about 24 or more hours before using again or giving it back to your friend.

Oh and for some reason hairspray seems to add better shine if you use it before curling...............So I understand!!!!!

Get a washcloth and hot, hot water. Takes the gunk off mine everytime. You will have to scrub a bit, not too much though.

While it is still warm, place a wet washcloth over the barrel and let it sit for a couple of minutes. It will soften the products and you should be able to scrub them off with an old toothbrush.

Goo Gone? Don't know if it will work, but it works for most kinds of gunk. May have to scrub it a few times. Make sure you get the Goo Gone off completely before plugging the curling iron back in.

This is going to sound a bit odd but it really works....use oven cleaner! You know...the kind you spray out and it foams? Put it on the curling iron, let it set for 5 to 10 minutes depending on how dirty it is and then wipe/scrub it off with a wash cloth. Just be sure to wash the barrels really good with hot soapy water when your done....two times just to be safe. And viola'! Hope this helps! :)
