I'm Cape Verdian/Iranian and I have extreme curly hair? Help?

Okay-so I am Cape Verdean/Iranian when I was born my mother brought me and I had a relaxer done to my hair. Ever since then my hair has been frizzy and not as curly and bouncy (plus the fact that I've colored it quite a few times hasn't helped) I am too scared to go to a salon because white hairstylist seem to be scared of my hair and continuously remind of how hard my hair is compared to my sisters who have 'perfect' hair. I cried last time I went to the salon so I cut it myself. I really don't know how to take care of my thick wavy frizzy hair since my mom taught me to straight in it most my life. I was wondering do you recommend any products like gels meant for black hair for me?

I have curly hair and the best shampoo/conditioner I have found is Sleek Look by Matrix. You should be able to find it almost anywhere now. It used to be salon only but I have seen it at Target. It's great for when I want to straighten my hair, but it's also good for leaving it curly. It adds some weight to the curls and totally tames the frizz.
