What are the anthropological/evolutionary/g... reasons for curly hair?

If I put gel in my hair, and srunch it up, it will become extremely curly, as my hair is naturally fairly curly. I get it from my dad---if my mom does this, her hair will only be flat and gooey--it would take a lot more than gel and scrunching to curl her hair. But I am wondering: what are the evolutionary/anthropological reasons for curly hair? For example, of people of European descent, I've heard that the reasons are from the cold climate, although I don't see how? And obviously people of African descent hae very curly hair naturally, and Africa is a hot climate. although European curls and African curls are a different type of curly, they're both still curly---is it for the same reasons? And why is it that every single "racial group" (Europeans/Africans/Latinos) are able to have curly hair naturally or somehwat naturally except for Asians? What is the anthropological reason for this? And is it true that when Latin-Americans have curly hair, it is from their Spanish blood?

People are so overly sensitive, it seems they are afraid to recognize the differences in different races. Clearly, as you stated, Africans and people from tropical climates, typically have very curly hair. I believe this is to help protect them from the sun without having to many layers that would tend to lead to over-heating. By being curly, one strand of hair can provide many loops which help absorb ultraviolet light which is what the melanin (dark red pigment) does. Since the top of the head gets the most direct sunlight it seems to be the place where the hair remains in humans. Also it tends to be a good protector for something falling on it or from getting hit. The head is very vulnerable and our brain needs some protection. It would seem that curly hair would help somewhat. I think that the Asian race can be traced back to the high altitudes of Tibet based on language studies and some forensic DNA. It is my pet theory that Asians evolved the fatty eyelid as protection from the cold in the high altitude and the black hair to protect from the intense ultraviolet radiation found at high elevation. I suspect since it is cold their hair remained straight and perhaps there was some sexual selection for straight hair as well. Spanish probably have some Arab blood and there is actually alot of mixing of all races so none of are purebred, in spite of what some think.

Gustavo, why are you getting so uptight? I know that Latino is a culture and not a "race", but most Latino people I know consider that their "race", and the ones that are white do not think of themselves as that. And yes, when I refer to Hispanics with curly hair, I do mean the "mestizos". Report It

Ok, at least you gave me a response Report It

Who's your daddy?? Momma?? OK then.

What are the anthropological/evolutionary/g... reasons for curly hair?

Here is a little known fact: It has been suggested that race or nationality determines hair shape. This is untrue. Anyone can have straight, wavy or curly hair regardless of their race or nationality.

What are the anthropological/evolutionary/g... reasons for curly hair?

It has something to do with protection from the sun .However people from India do not have it as well as Chinese.Perhaps an anthropologist can shed some light on this

What are the anthropological/evolutionary/g... reasons for curly hair?

It楹搒 just human variation, I don楹搕 think having curly hair carries any anthropological advantages or disadvantages. I tend to think that curly hair is more common in caucasians but Australian aborigines tend to have it too, and they are mongoloid.

What are the anthropological/evolutionary/g... reasons for curly hair?

Curly hair protects the skull from the sun. Secondly, people from ALL continents have been interacting with each other for centuries. That is why you will find dark and light people within a nation and the varieties will be more pronounced along coastal areas where trade took place.

You again!

My friend, latino is not "racial group", with or without inverted commas. Now if you're talking about the brown latinos that come in great numbers to your country, then I'd say that, yes, the ones that have curly hair is because of the Spanish blood. But you could be talking about a Dominican or Puerto Rican mulatto, honestly, it's very difficult to talk with people like you.

You ignored the last I answer I gave to you. Now I'll make that way: I'll show some photos to you and you decide if this person is or not from the "latino race",

Emanuel Ginobili, famous Argentinian basketball player:

Is he from the latino race?

I hope you stop ignoring the truth
