I also have thick curly hair - and it takes some time to really figure out what works best for you. For me I stay away from the gel - I think it flakes too easily and makes my hair crispy. I use Treseme products - I use the anti-frizz spray then some moose for curls and then a light mist hair spray - then I use my blow dryer (need a difuser) and then after I blow dry it I put it the way I want it - if I'm using a headband or taking some of my hair in the very front to get it out of my face and for lift or if I'm just splitting it ....then I put more moose and hairspray and blow dry it so it takes the shape I like the best. For me, because my hair was cut short I like to put my hair somewhat up for lift - like I said, with a headband or I use bobby pins to take the very area where you might have bangs and pin it up so it's out of my face. It's all trial and error - good luck.

Kimbermai, I couldn't have said it better myself! Do use Tresemme products! They're awesome for curly heads!

Also, I like to put my hair in a high knot/bun. Its a sloppy style, but I was surprised at the compliments. I just detangle my hair, pull it up in a high ponytail, leave a few ringlets in front of my face and hairspray! It stays up pretty well!

Hope that helps!
